What Happened Before My High School Graduation

As I look out over the crowd attending my high school graduation with high school gowns, I can’t help but wonder if the events of the past few weeks affected them as much as it did me. Although it seems like a lifetime ago, I know that it was a just a few days.

May 5^th was just like any other day in my sleepy hometown. It was a brisk spring morning, like any other it seemed. I never thought that something like this could happen to us, not our small town, but I was wrong, we all were.

I figured it was such a nice day, that I would walk to school this morning. I didn’t live that far from the school, so it was not that big of a deal. I was lost in thought, thinking about finals and my high school graduation that was coming up in a few weeks; everybody has already ordered high school gowns. If I can just get through finals, then I know I will be able to finally leave this town. It was a nice town, don’t get me wrong, but it was just small and boring.

I guess if I had been paying attention, I would have noticed that car speeding towards me. I may have noticed that this car was going way too fast for the road and might have gotten up out of the street. Even though I was only walking along side of the road, because there was no sidewalk, I would have gladly gotten up onto the curb, and possibly up onto someone’s lawn. I wonder if I would have noticed that the driver was drunk.

By the time I looked up, I didn’t even have enough time to register if he even had a front license plate before he hit me. I remember being thrown over the car and I remember the pain. I didn’t know it was possible to feel so much pain. I don’t remember too much after that, until I woke up in the hospital.

I remember the doctor telling me that he did not even know if I would be able to attend my high school graduation and I was so sad that I can’t wear my high school gowns. He said a lot of big words that didn’t make much sense to me. He also said a few things that did, like blood loss and femur fracture. I don’t know if it was the morphine or just my lack of medical experience, but not a whole lot was making sense at that point.

After 2 surgeries and time spent in my cast, the doctor did not think I would be able to make it to my high school graduation, but here I am. While I was hoping to be able to walk down the aisle to get my diploma, I will have to deal with being wheeled to receive my diploma. I don’t know if they ever will catch the guy that hit me. I don’t know if I will ever be able to run again, or walk without pain. I don’t know now what my future holds for me, other than lots of physical therapy. I do know that I made it this far and I am not going to give up now. I want to wear my high school gowns for my graduation.

High School Graduation: The Final Frontier

While that may sound strange, when you have your high school graduation, it is like stepping into a new world. You will enter a student and leave a graduate. You have finally made it to the end of high school and are ready to begin to explore the world outside of high school.

While it may seem strange and scary, if you take the time to change your perspective a bit, you may find this new world to be very exciting.

Exciting and scary, this new world holds so much that the possibilities are endless. You now have the chance to become a healer, entering into the medical field. This does not mean being a doctor, but you can also study to become a nurse or a medical technician, which the possibilities there are many. You could study to be an X-ray technician, or an ultrasound technician. You could become a lab technician, or you could study to be a phlebotomist, which is someone who draws blood for a living.

You can also begin to explore other fields of work, such as law. This does not necessarily mean that you would have to go full out and become a lawyer, because there are also other areas of study when it comes to law as well. You could study to become a law enforcement officer, or a parole officer. You can also look into becoming a paralegal, or even work in the security field.

If you are not ready to go to college yet, you can also look into different, quicker, areas of study that are more non-traditional. Jobs like a truck driver can be exciting and rewarding. While federal law states that you cannot transport across state lines until you have reached 21 years of age, there are still many opportunities available to you. Some trucking companies will help pay for your CDL, or Commercial Driver’s License, in return for a contract that you will work for them for a certain amount of time. Usually this time is between six months and two years, but the time varies from company to company as does the other requirements that they may have.

Whether you decide to go to college, or hit the open road, having been through the high school graduation ceremony with a high school gowns, is like being initiated into a new club. You have so many new opportunities in front of you and if you are willing to take the time to see all of your options, you will find the perfect career for you. Like the popular science fiction franchise, you will go places that no high school student has gone before. Now that you have finally made it through the halls of high school, what do you do now? You have finally made it to your high school graduation, but what comes after? Hopefully I will be able to give you a few ideas on where to go from here. Whether you chose college, tech school or just to get a job after high school, you may have some prep work that you need to do.

If you are a motivated person, you may have applied to many different colleges. You may have even been accepted by a few before your high school graduation. This does not mean, however, that you know where you will be going. Maybe you have a geographical location in mind, course studies, or just looking for the first college to accept you. A few things to keep in mind are about dorms, off campus living or commuting to school.

If you are considering going to a tech school after your high school graduation, you will want to look to see what is available in your local area. You need to make sure that not only do you have a technical school located in your area, but that it is close enough to commute to. Do you have your own vehicle, or will you car pool? What about taking a bus, is it close enough to take a bus to, is it even on the local route?

How about just taking some time off from your education? You finally made it to your high school graduation, but this does not determine your future by any means. There are a number of jobs available for recent high school graduates, including fast food and wait staff, but these are, by no means, your limited options. You could work industry through a temporary service or deliver pizzas which, if you have a good area, can be very profitable. You can also look at jobs that could take advantage of the limited education you have, such as bank teller (if you are good in math) or cashier (if you are a people person). While there are not too many jobs, high paying ones, for a high school graduate, if you are willing to take a lower pay, the jobs are there.

Depending on if you are choosing to go on to further your education after your high school graduation or take some time off and work now, the options are out there. If you chose college, take housing into account, it can be a very important deciding factor. Should you chose, instead, to further your education through a tech school, location is one of the major points to look at. If, however, you decide to join the work force immediately after your high school graduation , then look to see what is available with the skills that you possess and take into account subjects you were good in and that you enjoyed. Finding a job that you enjoy will make the work easier and you will have fun at the same time.
